Description
What is cod liver oil?
The Vikings were huge fans of the benefits of cod liver oil: they went to a lot of trouble to extract the oil by laying fresh cod livers over birch tree branches above a kettle of boiling water. As the steam rose, the oil dripped into the water and was skimmed off. Maybe they just liked the taste (!) or maybe they knew that cod liver oil is a rich source of vitamins A and D (good for eyes, bones, teeth and the immune system) and the omega 3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These omega 3s give cod liver oil its beneficial properties for brain, eyes and cardio care.*
Why choose Healthspan's Super Strength Cod Liver Oil 1200 mg capsules?
Our Super Strength Cod Liver Oil 1200 mg marks a break−through, providing unprecedented levels of the beneficial omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, making it one of the highest strength cod liver oil supplements available in the UK. Each concentrated fish oil capsule provides 40 % total omega 3 fatty acids, including 185 mg DHA and 220 mg EPA, along with the vitamins A and D which provide support for the bones, teeth and the immune system. The environmental sustainability and protection of the world's sea life are highly important to us, so we're proud to say that our premium Super Strength Cod Liver Oil 1200 mg contains oil that has been granted 'Friend of the Sea' certification. Friend of the Sea are known for their thorough certification procedure, using stringent guidelines before awarding their seal of approval. We've done all the hard work so you don't have to do as the Vikings did!
Our cod liver oil is sustainably sourced from the pristine waters of Lofoten in Northern Norway. It is refined to keep it extremely pure and we've also added St Clements orange and lemon flavouring to make it easier on the taste buds. We've come a long way from drinking cod liver oil by the spoonful at school! The UK's Food Standards Agency recommends a minimum of two portions of fish per week − this equals 450 mg per day of long chain omega 3 fatty acids, which is why we recommend one to two capsules daily. If you don't include enough oily fish in your diet, this oil is ideal for you.
*A daily intake of 250 mg of DHA helps support brain and eye health, whilst a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA supports heart health.
